Fall Festival

What did I get myself into?  Holy cow!  What a whirlwind of coordinating.  Thankfully, I have some great friends and support around me.  I could never have accomplished it without them.

We didn’t have things like the Fall Festival or Spring Carnival when I was a kid. But then again, we didn’t have 25 different fund raisers either!  Since funding has been cut, the PTA is responsible for music and art programs as well as fun activities.  I’m getting off track here though.

The Fall Festival was a HIT!  We really have a great PTA and staff at my kids elementary. We had about eight different groups coordinating different activities.  I was responsible for the 6th grade BBQ/food booth.  Coordinating donations and volunteers is difficult when people don’t have money or time to give.  With the help of my awesome friend/coordinator, we got it all together!

We had the BBQ grills going all night cooking those burgers and dogs, and they were delicious!  We also had a chili Frito nacho bowl, which was a great seller with kids and adults.  Our volunteers were amazing, we all came together and served over 700 people. Other booths sold popcorn, cotton candy, caramel apples and baked goods to name a few.

I was lucky enough to have my wonderful daughter Erika to take my little one around to play games while I sold food to hungry festival supporters.  My 6th grader hung out with her friends and ate lots of hot dogs, apparently, they were really good.  I would have liked to go around and see all the fun, but my responsibility to the 6th grade was too great. Next year, you can bet I will be one of the parents enjoying myself, watching the teachers and principal having a pie eating contest. (I suggested a pie throwing contest, maybe next year.)

I wish I had some pictures to share with you, but the memories will live on in our minds.
